It's amazing how one day you're in a creative lull and the next day exciting projects are suddenly sprung upon you!
Exciting project #1: I was recently cast as the lead in my first professional feature film! Last semester I took an amazing directing class with Lisa Gottlieb, who has directed actors such as the cast of Boy Meets World, Christina Applegate, and Renee Humphrey. I had also acted for a lot of scenes in her directing classes and I had no idea it would pay off like this. A few days ago, I received an e-mail from her informing me that she had a great role in mind for me in her next feature film. We met this week, talked over the script, and I got the part! The script is incredible and will be shot over the winter season here in Miami. Words cannot express the level of excitement contained within my 5 foot 1 inch frame! Exciting project #2: I was cast in a play reading at the University of Miami! Funnily enough, the same day I received the e-mail from Lisa about her film, I also received an e-mail from my playwriting professor, Edith Freni. She is a young, extremely talented playwright from New York and new to the University of Miami theatre school. In welcoming her, students (including myself) were chosen to perform a reading of her play, Help Yourself. I'm not a very active theatre student at UM because my primary major revolves around television/film. So it's really awesome that I get to take part in something special at the theatre school my senior year and am honored that I was chosen to do this. I was recently cast in a short film for a University of Miami 352 project. I was searching through the lovely Actors Info Booth and found that a friend from my editing class was directing it! Excitingly enough I got the part and look forward to good fun with a crew I know and love!
After a long 3 days of trial and error, I finally completed my actor demo reel! One more thing to scratch off my list! :D
Eventually, I would like to start making actor demo reels for others. It will make for good free lance work. From time to time I like to check up on the status' of my YouTube sketches. I recently made my rounds and was happy to discover that recent views were coming from a website called Guanabee.com - Spicy coverage for Latinos. I love seeing that my work is being appreciated amongst the Latin community. See the article below:
Is Your Daughter Shamed By Her Upcoming Quinceañera? Fear No More. I am happy to say that the University of Miami has allowed me to grow creatively in different areas other than acting. Some may think it causes me to stray from the craft, but in fact, it strengthens it. I am extremely satisfied with how my classes are going and I'm especially attached to my writing courses. My 10-minute play and iCarly spec script are working out really well and I have the best professors to thank as well as my class mates. They are an integral part of the process in helping us direct our pieces in a better, clearer direction.
Throughout this process, I have grown to love iCarly. Yes, it's a show geared towards "pre-teens and teenagers", but it does have a strong following of young adults. I'm one of those young adults. iCarly's creator is Dan Schneider. He is the brilliant man behind All That, The Amanda Show, Drake and Josh, Kenan and Kel, etc. He basically created some of my favorite Nickelodeon shows of all time. It's funny, because a lot of my class mates have never seen this show at all. It was interesting to watch them react. I honestly think everyone should give it a chance. You may be surprised with what you see. Nobody really gets how funny and cleverly written that show really is. They tend to cross the line a lot too..and I like that kind of bravery in a kid's show. HAHA! Til next time! New pictures are up:
Productions Behind the Scenes That amazing Pillowman costume was put together by my two, extremely talented friends! Costume design by: Emanuel Sotomayor - deviantART Costume made by: Cheryll Aly Tonight, I took part in my first, live play reading with a new theatre company in Miami called Man Research Theatre. My co-star was The Pillowman's, Curtis Belz! It was a lot of fun and am so down to do something like this again.
I may be slacking, but only in the updating my website department. It's tough when I'm bombarded with projects to do as well as keeping up with Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr amongst other social media sites. Ya know how that goes. Sooo, what have I been up to? *My senior year at the University of Miami began on August 26th. I am taking 5 courses: Editing Motion Graphics & Compositing Sound Editing Writing for Television Series Playwriting It's quite a lot of work but I'm having fun along the way :) *Aside from school-related projects, we are about to wrap up the writing process for Ground Up & Rising's latest Culture Shock Miami episode series. Shooting should begin in October! I can't wait! *This past weekend I spent my time shooting a sketch I wrote a while ago and am very happy that it's finally in production! There are still a lot of things needed to complete it but once it's done it will be so worth it! *Last but not least, I acted in my friend's season finale episode of their web series, Going Nowhere. It's Scott Pilgrim/Disney themed and these boys did an AMAZING job producing this! I am now motivated to be Ramona Flowers for Halloween. I was recently informed that I am a recipient for the Hispanic Scholarship Fund! Out of about 24,000 entries this year only 2,100 were awarded scholarships. I'm so grateful!
